One Month

We needed to get out of the house and wanted to document our sweet little family at Grey's one month mark. We went up Little Cottonwood canyon and took some cheesy family pictures. I am so entirely blessed to have such sweet men in my life. I am the happiest I have ever been (but the most tired). Right now our main goals are getting the little one to sleep better at night and trying to find a place we can call home and raise our family. We will see how quickly that gets sorted out... but as of now I feel a little vampirish (sleeping during the day and playing during the night).

Grey is beginning to smile at us and make really good eye contact. He always wins in a staring contest. I swear I have heard him chuckle a couple of times and it is so darling. He loves the sound of our voices and I sing him a lullaby every night and Nate whistles songs to calm him down. We are figuring this parenting thing out slowly but it has sure been fun.

My Obsession

The past few weeks have been completely exhausting... Mostly because I just want to stare at my sweet little Grey all day and night long. He also doesn't like to sleep in the night just during the day. He is so sweet though and I couldn't have asked for a better baby. He is chunking up fast, already almost two pounds heavier and it is all in his cheeks and thighs (poor kid gets it from his mom). He has been kind of sick this week and he has been such a champ through it. It hurts me to see him hurt and it has definately been hard being a mom this week. He will be a month old on Sunday and I cannot believe how quickly the time goes. Ahh I love this boy so dang much and I am so lucky to have him in my life!

Grey Emerson Morgan: My GEM

Words cannot express how insane and wonderful child birth is. The second they put this little human into my arms I was eternally attached and had never had such immense love for something in my entire life. He is my everything. I really believe my soul would not be able to survive without him in my life.

On Thursday I had a regular appointment with my doctor and she was a little worried that my uterus hadn't been growing. She sent me to get an ultra sound the next day and the fluids were fine but his heart rate had a late deceleration on one contraction in an hour so the doctor wanted me monitored in Labor and Delivery. Everything looked good down there so they said just to be sure, come in again the next day. So I worked my last shift of work on Saturday, had lunch with Nate and we headed to the hospital with NO expectation of having this baby anytime soon.

We got there and the nurse was puzzled at why we were even there, she said everything looked fine and walked out of the room to go check on another patient while I was monitored for a little longer. She came back in and hour later and we thought she must have just been busy. She told me the baby wasn't cooperating and that I might be staying in the hospital. They got us into a room and our doctor came in and explained that there was a possibility that my placenta was starting to give out and that it would just be better to get the little guy out while he was healthy and strong. Nate and I (mostly I) had tears in our eyes from the excitement that our little boy would soon be with us.

They started me with a foley balloon that slowly dilated me to a 4 in 12 hours and then gave me pitocin and waited to break my water for a few more hours because his head had still not dropped. I dilated sooo slowly and was given an epidural that almost made things worse because I hated being numb and not being able to turn over in the night. It was sure nice to stop really feeling the contractions though. Finally after 26 hours of labor, I was dilated to a 10 and I could start pushing. There were 3 ladies at a 10 at the same time with only 1 doctor. One had had a baby before so she was first in line and then it was up to me and another girl for the next spot. Now I was so antsy to have this baby that I pushed so hard that I could have beaten the 1st lady to having the baby but they made me wait until she was finished.

I was finally able to get pushing again and little Grey was in this world in no time at all. The whole time I pushed and labored we were happy and laughing and it was such an amazing experience.

7lbs 20.5 inches long. Born July 14th 2013 at 4:50pm

Grey is heavenly. He is such an angel and has the sweetest countenance. He has his nights and days mixed up so I see more of his eyes during the night. It has been hard getting used to this new sleep schedule but I have loved every moment with him (even the poop squirting ones). I am so happy to have him in my life and I think this is a beautiful start to a new beginning.

I am getting pretty nesty...

I know I still have at least 3 weeks until this sweet baby will be in my arms but I literally cannot wait. We officially have everything ready from the crib to every bum paste and baby lotion. He kicks harder and harder every day but slows down a little every day as well. It is to the point where when his foot/elbow/knee jabs into me, I yelp in pain. He is getting so strong! I wish I could at least see his little face to get me through the rest of the month and maybe give him one big squeeze and put him back for the rest of the time. But since that isn't happening, I focus on the back pains, insomnia, basketball belly, and heartburn! So little man in there, if you are listening, your debut is very much anticipated and so get your little bum out here! Ha well, I will hang in there a little longer but I am soooo excited!

33 Week Appointment

He is head down! Such a great sign! He also has a little bit of hair that showed up in the ultrasound and it melts my heart. Everything seems to be ready to go and it all looks good! I cannot wait to have this bundle of joy in my arms! We love him so much!

A Baby Shower for a MIA pregnant girl

So I guess that whenever I am the guest of honor for something I end up in the hospital...

I was at work Monday afternoon and was closing up a plane to Atlanta. I had some checked  bags that I needed to throw down to the ramp and as I was doing that, my boss came down and told me to be careful. I of course think that my pregnancy has not hindered my abilities so I say with attitude, "I will..." Then as I go to get back into the jetway I get distracted and the big metal door smacks me right and center in my baby belly. It takes my breath away and hurts pretty badly but I have a plane to get out on time and I just keep going on with life.

When I finally get a chance to think about it as I am going out to the car, I call my Ob office and ask if I am ok. They say to just come by and have his heart rate checked for peace of mind. Then they call back when I am on my way there and say to go check in at Labor and Delivery. I go in and they have me set up in a real hospital bed and gown and say I will probably be there for 4 hours for observation.

I am not really concerned at this point because my baby shower is like 6 hours away and I will have plenty of time to make it back. Finally the doctor gets back to the nurse and informs me that she needs me to stay overnight because there could possibly be a placental abruption which would make me go into preterm labor. I start bawling and calling my sisters (the hosts of the shower). I am a total wreck because I have been looking forward to this for sooo long! I want to see my friends and I know that my sisters have worked so hard on it!

I try to talk my doctor into letting me leave but the more I fight it the more she scares me about what could happen to my baby if I were not at a hospital being observed and the placenta tore away from my uterus. So by that point I am not only crying because I want to go to my party but because I think my baby is going to have something go terribly wrong with him!

I end up staying and my sisters have the food and everything ready for people as they come. Then we face-timed so that I could see everyone there. After the shower about half of the girls came to the hospital and I got to open presents. It was so nice of my sisters to throw a shower for me even though I couldn't be there!

I was having really weird contractions and got pretty sick the next day because my blood pressure had dropped so low. I think it was like 68/48 or something ridiculous. I am ok now and the baby kept up a good heart rate through it all. Now I just want him to come out as soon as he is healthy so that nothing else can go wrong with my body! As I write this though he is kicking madly and making my stomach wave. I love this little boy and I am so excited to see his little self in 4-7 weeks!!

New York after 5 months away

We hadn't seen the Morgans since Christmas and with morning sickness, school, work and the busy schedules of missionary presidents we couldn't get there until last week! I was cutting it close because I can only travel until 34 weeks prego and I am 33 this week!

As usual it was a quick trip over the weekend and we never have enough time with them. We got in Saturday night and had one of Debbie's delicious dinners that we have missed so much. We spent a lot of time just hanging out and eating :) which is what pregnant girls love to do, well at least this pregnant girl.

Monday for Memorial day we went to the 9/11 memorial and it literally took my breathaway. The waterfalls are so intense and the movement of black into the earth is such a powerful symbol for the events that happened that day. I am so blessed to live in this great country and I thank all the men and women that have been heros to our beautiful America.

We went to Chelsea's Market and I LOVED it! Just great food and imports that were fun to walk through and shop. Then we went to dinner at a place called Smith's in Columbus Square and stopped at Magnolia's Bakery for some banana pudding and cupcakes. It was a really fun day.

We left early the next day and it should be the last time I see them before I have a little runt to take care of! I can't wait!
